Fruit Day 8
15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s
clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know
them by their fruits . . .
Matthew
7:15-16
Emergency vehicles have sirens. Large trucks often beep when
backing up. Warnings scroll across the bottom of our televisions to warn of
threatening weather. However, there is no common device to place us on guard
when false prophets approach us proclaiming things in the name of God.
With a silver tongue, they use the name of God to speak to
our disappointments, insecurities, or loneliness. They may even try to tempt us
away from what we know to be the true Word of God. In these encounters, we may
find ourselves confused as to the proper direction for our lives. So, we pray
for clarity, seeking an answer. All the while, we wonder if this is divine
assistance from God or a false prophet.
Though we may not have mechanically-designed, spiritual
warning systems, we do have the Spirit to guide us. Let us cling to the Word of
God and develop a regular relationship with God. Let us abide in the Spirit, so
that we may be able to hear and recognize the guidance of that still, small voice
directing our paths. Let us stay focused on our eternal God and not on the appeal of temporary
glamour. Let us exemplify that we are true followers of Christ.
