Fruit Day 5
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ
Jesus.
Philippians 3:14
Runners who have completed a marathon do not spontaneously
get up and run 26.2 miles. They begin with shorter distances and work their way
up to race day. Likewise, babies do not learn to walk without countless
attempts and falls. Even learning to ride a bicycle requires its share of bumps
and bruises. It is often the same in our Christian walk.
Romans 3:23 tells us that we “all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God.” That is no reason, however, for us to give up in our
endeavor to press toward heaven’s call. The fruit we produce may not always be
that of the Holy Spirit. At times, the fruit we produce may even appear rotten.
However, because of the sacrifice of Christ, we may be forgiven. Because of
Christ, we can still be renewed and produce spiritual fruit that is fresh and
ripe.
So, let us not become discouraged or deterred by our
temporary failings, but encouraged by the promise of eternity. Let us continue
to press forward toward the prize of our higher calling.
